The PGA Tour is looking at the possibility of staging the Presidents Cup in South America for the first time in 2015.
PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem also confirmed that China is in the running to host the event in 2019, which should give the country enough time to aim to have a player capable of competing.
If China did stage the 2019 tournament, that would leave 2015 open for an international venue and the Tour is said to be keen on the idea of taking the event to South America a year before golf returns to the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
The Nationwide Tour will play a tournament in Columbia next year but until now, most of the leading players to come out of South America hail from Argentina, including two-time major champion Angel Cabrera.
Finchem said that the first priority before the continent can be considered for the Presidents Cup, which takes place every two years between the US and the rest of the world except Europe, would be to build more golf courses.
