The first investor ever to take a stake in the Williams Formula One team has insisted he is in it for the long haul.
Austrian Christian Wolff recently bought a minority stake in the team set up by Sir Frank Williams and Patrick Head but has hinted that he may look to increase his involvement on the future.
Wolff told German newspaper Der Standard: “This is not a simple transaction in which I buy such-and-such a percentage.
“It was necessary to create a model within which I can expand my participation via options over the next few years.
“Frank and Patrick are both over 60 and must now think about the next generation and the future of their company. They know that I, unlike many other potential investors, have a long-term interest.
“For Williams, it was a good first step towards securing the future, and for me it was an opportunity to enter with a top team – a win-win situation.”
