The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has spoken out against plans to stage the 2012 Olympic competition at Wembley Arena.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) last week agreed to a request from London organisers to move the badminton and rhythmic gymnastics events to the Arena rather build a £40m temporary venue near the Olympic site in East London.
But the BWF does not want the sport to be in a “standalone” West London venue and president Kang Young Joong said: “We are of the opinion that this will affect the Olympic experience for players and spectators.
“The Olympic Games is the pinnacle of sporting achievement and the BWF owes our athletes and its members the responsibility to showcase badminton to the media and the world in the best possible way.”
The BWF said it would “vigorously engage” in venue negotiations with the IOC in a bid to find a solution.
