The French Grand Prix looks unlikely to return to the Formula One calendar in the near future after plans for a new track near Paris were scrapped.
French authorities said earlier this year that a 4.5km circuit at Flins-Les-Mureaux would be their preferred option for a grand prix after the demise of the race at Magny-Cours.
But president of the Conseil General of Yvelines, Alain Schmidt, said: “I really feel that we were not as supported as I had hoped. Having consulted all the stakeholders, I have decided, in agreement with the conseil, to abandon construction of a Formula One circuit.”
Reports suggest a return to Magny-Cours or a project called Le Pole Val de France, in the Sarcelles/Val d’Oise region, are the next best hopes for a French Grand Prix.
