Fifa unveils Portuguese website
 02/12/2009

Fifa has launched a Portuguese version of its website in preparation for the Confederations Cup in 2013 and the World Cup in 2014 – both of which will be played in Portuguese-speaking Brazil.

It becomes the sixth language of Fifa’s official website alongside English, French, German, Spanish and Arabic and, as well as all of the site’s current features translated into Portuguese, the new version also contains exclusive content from Fifa.com’s dedicated Portuguese editors.

Furthermore, the World Cup section of the site has been completely revamped to provide extensive coverage of the 32 qualified teams, the key match-ups and the fortunes of the star players over the next six months.

There will also be an emphasis on involving the fans in the run up to the tournament. Users of the site will have the opportunity to create a slogan for their team’s bus in the “Be There With Hyundai” promotion, while the Panini Virtual Sticker Album, presented by Coca-Cola, will be launched in early 2010.

Following the re-launch of Fifa.com on June 1, 2007, the site has attracted a total of 2.25 billion page views and seen more than 1 million football fans sign up to the Fifa.com Club, which allows users to personalise their site, comment and make friends with fans across the globe.
