The Adelaide Oval is to receive a major upgrade that will allow AFL matches to be played at the ground.
Following a deal between the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA), the South Australian government and the South Australian National Football League, the venue will increase its capacity to 50,000, while still retaining traditional aspects such as the century-old scoreboard.
SACA president Ian McLachlan said: “The agreement is a great result for cricket. The Adelaide Oval is internationally recognised as one of the greatest Test grounds in the world and an increased capacity of 50,000 will better position SACA to secure more international cricket matches, including Twenty20.”
