London mayor Boris Johnson wants the UK’s mobile phone networks to work together to enable people to watch the 2012 Olympics on their handsets.
Johnson has called on the likes of Vodafone and O2 to collaborate to develop technology which allows users to watch 3D clips of the Games.
The mayor is also keen for people to be able to pay for minor purchases, such as cups of coffee, with their phones.
He said: “I want Londoners and visitors alike to be buzzing with the excitement of the Games as they happen, wherever they are in the city.
“I want everyone to share in the same information at the same time and the key to achieving this is through the one item we never part with – our mobile phones.”
