Bernie Ecclestone says he is “confident” Renault will remain in Formula 1 next season.
Renault’s executive committee met last week to discuss the team’s future amid mounting speculation that it will become the latest manufacturer to pull out of the sport.
A final decision is expected within the next week but the latest rumour is that the company will sell a controlling stake in its F1 operation to Prodrive boss David Richards in a deal that could retain the Renault name and is likely to see it stay on as an engine supplier.
The Times quotes Ecclestone as saying: “We’ve got to get the whole Renault thing sorted out - we are in the middle of doing it now. I feel confident that we’ll see Renault next year in F1 under the name Renault and the year after and the year after that.”
