Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie has confirmed that he has been in talks with a “couple of parties” in Australia about investing in the South Coast club.
New owner Ali Al-Faraj is attempting to refinance the club and Storrie has been trying to tap into Australian interest in the Premier League while on holiday in Perth over the last week.
“I’ve been talking to a couple of parties on that [new investment],” said Storrie. “It’s at the interim stage at the moment but we’ve been talking to a couple of parties to see what interest there is.
“There’s a lot of interest from Australian businesses in the Premier League. A lot of people know me over here because I used to have soccer schools here when I was with West Ham.
“But it was just a general discussion. The parties I’ve met have got all the financial information and all the documents that were needed. They’ll be studying those and coming back to me within a very short period.”
Portsmouth paid its players late for the second time in three months in November and was recently forced to deny speculation about Storrie’s own future as uncertainty over the club’s management structure continues.
But Storrie maintains that the club represents a good investment – as long as it stays in the top flight.
“You can only base it on the new owners who have put a considerable amount of finance into the club to help reduce the debt,” he added.
“I think anyone investing in the club at the moment, it would be a good investment because the debt’s being reduced all the time and, as long as we can stay in the Premier League, it’ll be a good investment.”
