The English Institute of Sport (EIS) has begun the hunt for a new national director after the resignation of Conor O’Shea, who is leaving to join Harlequins as director of rugby.
O’Shea, a former Irish rugby union international, joined the EIS in July 2008 and had led the organisation through a significant period of change.
EIS chairman Steve Cram said: “As a result of Conor’s efforts, we now feel we are in the best possible shape to support sports in the lead up to 2012 and beyond. A suitable successor is now being sought.”
UK Sport chief executive John Steele added: “For UK Sport, the priority now is to ensure Conor’s swift and smooth replacement so that the momentum built up behind the EIS’ crucial role is not lost, and we will offer Steve Cram and his team every support to ensure this is the case.”
O’Shea will leave his post at the EIS in March next year.
