The International Rugby Board has announced that three countries have formally expressed their interest in hosting the Rugby World Cup Sevens in 2013.
Brazil, Germany and Russia will compete for the right to stage the tournament, which features 24 men’s and 16 women’s teams playing over three days of competition.
“This announcement means that the tournament is guaranteed to break new ground as it will be hosted by a new territory, demonstrating Rugby Sevens’ growing global appeal,” said International Rugby Board president Bernard Lapasset.
Eight countries were on the longlist to host the 2013 event but five, including Scotland, withdrew from the process.
The host nation will be selected by the IRB Council at its May 2010 meeting.
