The United States Olympic Committee has chosen Scott Blackmun as its new chief executive.
Blackmun, who is a former chief operating officer of Anschutz Entertainment Group and worked as an adviser on London’s successful bid for the 2012 Games, was chosen from six finalists for the post, according to Bloomberg. He is believed to have beaten USA Swimming chief executive Chuck Wielgus in the final round.
Blackmun rejoins USOC, which has been widely criticised over Chicago’s disastrous bid for the 2016 Olympic Games, following a temporary stint as chief executive in 2000.
Blackmun, a partner in Colorado law firm of Holme, Roberts & Owen, succeeds Stephanie Streeter, who took over as chief executive from Jim Scherr in early 2009 but stated that she did not want the job full time.
