Renault has named Eric Boullier as its new Formula 1 boss.
The 36-year-old Frenchman succeeds Bob Bell, who had been acting team principal following Flavio Briatore’s departure in the aftermath of the ‘Crash-gate’ scandal. Bell will stay on as the team’s technical chief.
Boullier has spent the last two years in charge of Team France in A1GP, winning the title in 2008.
He has also worked as managing and technical director of Team DAMS, overseeing its involvement in a number of formats including the GP2 series, GP2 Asia and Formula BMW Europe.
“Renault is one of the most famous and successful names in motorsport and I look forward to leading the team into the new season,” he said.
“In the past, Renault has demonstrated it is one of the top teams in Formula 1, and I am sure that with hard work and determination we can challenge at the front again.”
Boullier becomes one of the youngest team bosses in F1 and believes his appointment is indicative of a wider generational shift in the sport.
“The team wanted some fresh blood and to open a new chapter,” he added.
“F1 is made of cycles, and the shape of tomorrow’s sport is being defined now with a new generation beginning to fill the paddock little by little.
“Ferrari and McLaren have, among others, followed this evolution – and Christian Horner from Red Bull Racing is my age.”
