The United States Soccer Federation has announced that film director Spike Lee has joined the board of the country’s 2018 and 2022 World Cup bids.
Lee joins the likes of New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, Walt Disney Company chief executive Robert Iger, California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and former US secretary of state Henry Kissinger on the bid committee board.
“I’m honoured to be part of the USA bid committee and its efforts to bring the World Cup back to our country as we see the second half of our soccer history develop in front of our eyes,” said Lee.
The US is competing against countries including England, Australia, Japan, Russia and joint bids from Netherlands-Belgium and Portugal-Spain for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. Fifa will announce the hosts for the two tournaments in December.
