Monisha Kaltenborn has been promoted to managing director of the Sauber Formula 1 team. She is thought to be the first woman to hold such a position in the sport.
Austrian Kaltenborn was previously head of legal affairs but will take over the day-to-day running of the team’s Hinwil factory. Peter Sauber remains team principal. Sauber’s son Alex will take responsibility for the team’s marketing activities.
“Formula One is constantly changing,” said Peter Sauber. “This division of responsibilities not only meets the demands of the sport, but also freshens things up within the company. I will keep myself informed on all important developments, but will leave operational matters to the management in Hinwil.”
