Barcelona has announced that it will bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics – 30 years after it staged the summer Games.
It would become the first city to host both events, unless Munich (which staged the summer Games in 1972) is chosen to host the Winter Olympics in 2018.
Barcelona mayor Jordi Hereu wants the city to combine with the Pyrenees ski resorts to bid for the 2022 event. The Spanish Olympic Committee will have to decide between the Catalan capital and Zaragoza, which declared its interest in bidding last year.
Hereu said: “Barcelona has a good chance and wants to relive the Olympic dream. The city is ready and already has the experience.”
