Sport England has appointed Rona Chester to the new role of chief operations officer (COO).
Chester, whose previous experience includes senior finance roles at Ofcom and Sotheby’s, will join Sport England from the Law Society, where she is group finance director. She takes up her new position on March 1.
Sport England says the new role of COO is key to its aim of “creating a world-leading community sport system”, as well as ensuring the effective financial and operational management of the organisation.
Chester will lead areas such as finance, business planning, information technology and grants management, in addition to working closely with Sport England’s chairman and chief executive on broader operational matters.
Chief executive Jennie Price said: “This new and important post is one which sits at the heart of our organisation, and with Rona’s considerable experience in both the public and private sectors, I am confident that we will build upon the standards and momentum we have established over the past two years.”
