Donington Park owner Kevin Wheatcroft has shortlisted 14 interested parties to take over the lease of the Leicestershire circuit.
Ownership of the track passed back to the Wheatcroft family after previous leaseholder Donington Ventures Leisure Limited (DVLL) went into administration.
DVLL lost a 17-year contract to host the Formula 1 British Grand Prix after failing to raise the funds to finance circuit upgrades.
But Wheatcroft wants to choose a new leaseholder in the coming weeks to “take Donington forward”.
He told BBC Radio Leicester: “I’m hoping towards the end of January we’ll be able to pin someone down as being the future of Donington. We’ve had interested parties and now have a shortlist of about 14.
“We have to whittle through that and see what is the best business plan and the best financial direction available to us.
“Sadly everyone knows the direction things went in last time and I’m desperate not to repeat that.
“That’s the reason why we need to make absolutely sure that who we choose to take Donington forward is the right decision.”
