World Cup ticket system to be made simpler
 19/01/2010

The system for buying tickets to this summer’s World Cup is to be simplified in a bid to encourage more South Africans to attend the event.

Fans in the host country will be able to purchase tickets using cash from April instead of just via the internet or written forms in banks.

Organisers fear that this year’s World Cup could be the first at which supporters of the host nation are outnumbered by fans from visiting countries.

People in South Africa are used to buying tickets on the day of a match rather than in advance and many poorer fans do not have internet access or bank accounts.

South Africa 2010 chief Danny Jordaan said: “We are definitely in the process of changing this and as a member of the ticketing committee, I am confident that Fifa will understand our position.”
