The Football Association is considering making a bid for the 2013 European Under-21 Championships – the first time England would have hosted the event.
England Under-21 manager Stuart Pearce, who took his team to the final of the tournament in Sweden last year, confirmed that a bid is possible and is backing the move.
"The FA are carrying out a feasibility study and hopefully that will lead to us bidding for it,” he said.
With England also in the running to stage the 2018 World Cup, Pearce added: “The next decade in football is very important in this country and we hope we can be the hosts for both these tournaments."
The FA has to submit a bid to Uefa by October but is still waiting for more detail from European football's governing body about exactly what would be required.
