Uefa has kicked off the tender process for the Euro 2012 media rights outside of Europe.
The governing body has invited media companies, including broadcasters and agencies, to submit offers for the “distribution and exploitation” of the rights by January 27.
The ‘outside of Europe’ market will be split into various territories for the tender process.
Uefa defines qualified broadcasters as “media content distribution organisations, including local or pan-regional broadcasters and broadcasting unions, that have the appropriate infrastructure, reach, resources and strong financial standing to distribute Euro 2012 programmes in the relevant countries”.
Meanwhile, it says that agencies and other organisations (excluding broadcasting unions) must have “appropriate, extensive and proven experience in the commercial exploitation of media rights to major sporting events, with strong financial standing, sufficient resources and suitably trained and experienced personnel to market the media and related rights in the relevant territory and to provide the necessary rights delivery and account management services”.
