Organisers of the 16th Asian Games have announced that women’s boxing will be on the schedule in Guangzhou this November before making its Olympic debut in London in 2012.
Executive deputy director of the sports department of the Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC), Li Xiaofeng, said that more women’s events will debut at this year’s event than men’s, including water polo, cricket, dragon boat racing and boxing.
The Asian Boxing Confederation proposed the inclusion of women's boxing in the 2010 Asian Games to the Olympic Council of Asia and GAGOC in the hope of raising the level and the profile of the sport in Asia.
