The chief executive of NASCAR Brian France has said that things are looking up after a difficult 2009 for the sport.
The recession hit NASCAR’s attendances and sponsorship revenues last year but France is more positive ahead of the 2010 season, which kicks off with the Daytona 500 race on February 14.
"Some things are stabilising for us in our sport," he said. "All four car manufacturers that compete in NASCAR [General Motors, Ford, Chrysler and Toyota] are much healthier than they were just a year ago.
"The teams have obviously been affected immensely. With the sponsorship business model, that has been tough – no question about it. Companies are very cautious to invest a lot of money in sponsorships of any kind.
"Despite that, it’s starting to thaw a little bit. The teams are getting renewals of sponsorships."
