The Professional Squash Association says 2010 will be a “transitional year” before the tour is fully revamped for 2011.
The organisation has been looking at ways to modernise the men’s tour since Ziad Al-Turki took over as chairman in 2005. It has just announced 10 Super Series events for this year, including the return of the Australian Open to the calendar.
The season kicks off this weekend with the long-established Tournament of Champions at Grand Central Station in New York.
Al-Turki said: "2010 will be a breakthrough and hopefully next year is when the sport finally moves forward. We are standing in a much better position than seen previously.
"We have all the tournaments pre-scheduled whereas before we couldn't tell in advance how the tour would shape out. It is a big step. It is the whole tour that has come together. It is a more professional set-up than previous years.
"It is a transitional phase. There will be teething pains but we are gearing up for 2011."
