King Juan Carlos of Spain has backed the country’s bid to host the 2018 Ryder Cup.
He attended an international tourism fair at which Esperanza Aguirre, president of the Comunidad de Madrid, presented the Spanish bid.
Aguirre said: “On behalf of the Comunidad de Madrid, I would like to thank His Royal Highness King Juan Carlos for supporting Spain’s bid to host the 2018 Ryder Cup, which is crucial to its success.
“We feel we have made a very strong case, and if we were to be awarded the Ryder Cup, I feel sure we would stage an event of which Madrid and the whole of Spain could be very proud.”
The six bidding nations – France, Germany, Holland, Portugal, Sweden and Spain – have until April 30 to submit their bids, with a decision due to be made next year
