Bahrain Grand Prix unlikely to be a sell out
 27/01/2010

The boss of Bahrain International Circuit has admitted that he does not expect the venue to be sold out for the first grand prix of the new Formula 1 season on March 14.

However, acting chief executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa said he was confident that all corporate lounges would be filled for the event.

“We have a total capacity of 34,000 but I would expect the number to go to 32,000,” Shaikh Salman told Arabian Business.

That would still be an improvement on the crowd last year, when only about 28,000 attended the grand prix – down from a capacity 34,000 the year before.

Corporate hospitality was also hit hard last year because of the recession but Shaikh Salman added: “We’re very optimistic [for 2010], and 20 of the 34 lounges are reserved so far. 2009 was a low season for us, but I see no reason why we should not sell out [corporate lounges] this year.”
