Castrol has signed up as an official sponsor of Euro 2012.
The motor oil and lubricants brand becomes the second global partner of the tournament in Poland and Ukraine, joining Adidas.
Castrol was one of the sponsors of Euro 2008 and used the event to launch the Castrol Index and subsequently the Castrol Rankings, which measure and rank player performance.
Those initiatives will be central to its sponsorship of Euro 2012 and the company’s senior vice-president Mike Johnson said: "Our investment in football has proved a tremendous success and allowed Castrol to add value to our business partners, excited and rewarded fans, and motivated our staff.”
David Taylor, chief executive of Uefa Events – a subsidiary of European football’s governing body created recently to manage the organisation’s commercial and event operations – added: "Castrol has proven to be an innovative partner for Uefa and European football and we are delighted that this mutually beneficial relationship is set to continue."
Castrol is also a partner for the forthcoming Fifa World Cup in South Africa.
Uefa said that further global sponsorship agreements for Euro 2012 would be announced “imminently”.
