The Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics has hired Tony Blair as a consultant.
The former Prime Minister will advise organisers of the Games and give at least one speech.
Sergio Cabral, governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro, said: “Tony Blair is largely responsible for London winning and hosting the Olympics in 2012.
“If London has reached 2010 with everything in place, it is because of the planning and preparation during the period when he was Prime Minister.
“So hiring him provides a great bridge between London and Rio.”
Blair’s fee has not yet been decided but Cabral revealed it would be paid by private sponsorship and not from public funds.
Mail Online estimates that Blair has made £15m since standing down as PM in 2007.
The website claims he is the world's highest paid public speaker, having earned almost £400,000 for two half-hour speeches in the Philippines last year.
Blair will give a speech in Rio in May as part of his new consultancy role.
