Euro 2012 has appointed four of Poland and Ukraine’s most famous footballers, including Andriy Shevchenko, as ambassadors for the tournament.
Shevchenko, 1975 European Footballer of the Year Oleg Blokhin, and former Polish internationals Zbigniew Boniek and Andrzej Szarmach will help promote the event around the world.
Shevchenko won five Ukrainian titles and three cups with Dynamo Kiev, before leaving for AC Milan – where he won the European Footballer of the Year prize in 2004 – and then Chelsea. Shevchenko recently returned to Dynamo and is fast approaching 100 caps for the national team.
