London mayor Boris Johnson is to take over as chairman of London United, the group co-ordinating the capital's support for England's World Cup bid.
Johnson replaces Simon Greenberg, the former Chelsea communications chief, who joined the 2018 bid as chief of staff in December.
Johnson said: "We have brought together a crack new team to build on the first stage of the bid and get that first goal in the back of the net."
Three London stadiums – Wembley, Arsenal’s Emirates and either Tottenham’s new ground or the Olympic Stadium – will be included in England’s bid.
2018 chairman Lord Triesman added: "We are delighted that the mayor has decided to chair London United.
“It demonstrates that the bid has political support at the highest level and that London, the world's leading city, is fully committed to bringing the World Cup to England.”
