International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge has demanded that Russia takes a harder line on drug cheats after a number of the country’s athletes failed dope tests recently.
Russia will host the Winter Olympics in Sochi in four years’ time and Rogge has revealed that he has raised the issue of drugs in meetings with Russian sports officials and the country's president Dmitry Medvedev.
"We have alerted Russian authorities and we now expect them to comply," Rogge said.
"I insisted [in talks with president Medvedev] on the need to have a strong action on doping and he promised that he would launch that and he was very explicit in public declarations."
