Cricket, powerboating and sports climbing have been officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), meaning they are now eligible to become part of the Olympic programme.
The next Games the three sports could join would be 2020 because the programme is determined seven years in advance.
Golf and rugby were last year granted inclusion in the 2016 Olympics that will take place in Rio de Janeiro.
The decision on new sports for the 2020 Games will be taken at an IOC session in Buenos Aires in 2013, when the host country will also be picked.
