NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has signed a new five-year contract.
Goodell replaced Paul Tagliabue in 2006 and his contract was due to expire this September. His new deal runs until March 2015.
"Commissioner Goodell and his staff have done an outstanding job and this is a statement of confidence in Roger's leadership," said Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, who chairs the league’s compensation committee.
"NFL ownership recognises his already significant list of accomplishments and is fully behind his strategic vision for the future of our league."
The NFL said a year ago that Goodell had voluntarily taken a salary cut of between 20 and 25 per cent.
While full details of his new deal have not been disclosed, it is understood that his package remains unchanged.
