LTA chief executive Roger Draper is backing plans by sports minister Gerry Sutcliffe to get more local sports clubs to take advantage of the Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) initiative.
CASC entitles amateur sports clubs, including tennis clubs, to qualify for a number of tax advantages. It is aimed at clubs that adopt a strong community focus and frees up money that can be reinvested in the clubs themselves.
About 5,500 sports clubs have signed up around the UK, but tennis is one of the sports that has seen a relatively low take-up.
Draper said: “With only 100 of the 2,700 LTA-affiliated clubs currently signed up as CASCs, it’s clear many are still missing out on a potential way to save money through reduced tax bills.
“I urge any clubs who might be eligible to look into the scheme. The money they save could be reinvested to help more people get involved in tennis, or access more coaching and competitions.”
Sutcliffe stated recently: "It is great that we have signed up more than 5,500 clubs to the Community Amateur Sports Club scheme and that many sports clubs are reaping the benefits it brings. But there are thousands of clubs out there that are missing out.
"Sports clubs will play a crucial role in helping us reach our goal of getting 2 million people more active by 2013. Being part of the scheme means that clubs will have more funds at their disposal to help increase participation."
