The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has handed FirstGroup a major contract to run bus services for spectators at the London 2012 Olympics.
The company beat 77 rivals to become the preferred bidder for the contract, which is valued at about £20m.
Organisers are billing the London Olympics as the first "public transport games".
FirstGroup will provide more than 600 of its own buses to shuttle spectators between venues and park and ride locations around London. A further 300 buses will be contracted from other coach operators.
ODA transport director Hugh Sumner said: “About 10 per cent of spectators will use direct coach services, and a further 11 per cent will use park-and-ride services to get to events and venues across the country.
“As such, this is a significant contract that will help ensure the ODA meets spectator travel requirements in 2012.”
FirstGroup provided bus services for the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002.
The preferred bidder for a contract for transport of athletes and officials at the London Olympics is in the early stages of tendering.
