Fresh doubt has been cast on the participation of USF1 in the new Formula 1 season after rumours surfaced that YouTube founder Chad Hurley – one of the team’s main backers – could be about to pull out.
Only USF1 and fellow newcomers Campos Meta have yet to unveil their cars for the 2010 season, which gets underway in Bahrain on March 14.
Many, including F1 commercial rights chief Bernie Ecclestone, have expressed doubt that either team will make the grid, with Serbian outfit Stefan GP waiting in the wings.
Now it has emerged that USF1’s head of business development Brian Bonner has quit his role – and he could be followed out the door by Hurley.
YallaF1 suggests that the YouTube chief executive has begun to investigate the possibility of switching his allegiance to either Campos or Stefan GP.
Campos has been looking for an investor after apparently struggling to raise the required funds through sponsorship and was linked with A1GP’s Tony Teixeira but reports claim that Hurley could in fact be the team’s white knight.
