Quebec Premier Jean Charest has revealed that the city is considering making a bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
Charest echoed comments from Quebec City Mayor Regis Labeaume, who said that a proper infrastructure would need to be in place before an official bid was submitted.
The 2010 Winter Games are currently taking place in Vancouver. From there, Charest said: "I'd like to tell you we have a dream in Quebec.
“We hope some day we will see the Winter Olympics in Quebec – one of the most beautiful cities in the world and custom-made for the Winter Olympic Games. So I hope to see you in 2022.
" Mayor Labeaume and I share the same vision. We are favourable to Quebec City submitting the candidacy. But if we're not doing it right away, it's because we want to have all our ducks in a row so people can't be against the idea. That's why we're being prudent.
“A working group will meet with organizers of Vancouver 2010. My opinion is that we launch this application because the city of Quebec is tailored to accommodate the Winter Olympics.”
