Spanish businessman Jose Ramon Carabante has taken control of new Formula 1 outfit Campos Meta – and named Colin Kolles as team principal.

Carabante, who was already a partner in the team, becomes the new majority owner after agreeing a deal with founder Adrian Campos, who Kolles replaces as team principal.

Campos Meta is one of four new teams in F1 this year, but doubts have been raised about its participation in the first race of the season in Bahrain on March 14 after it struggled to raise funds through sponsorship and has yet to test its car.

Carabante hopes the management restructure will ensure the team makes it to the grid next month.

"I would like to thank [Formula 1 commercial chief] Bernie Ecclestone, who worked tremendously to support our efforts to keep the team viable," Carabante said in a statement.

"The whole rescue operation has been a race against time with the goal of always having the team run two competitive cars at the first grand prix of the F1 season in Bahrain.

"We have a lot of hard work still ahead of us but we are excited about making our F1 debut and looking forward to a competitive season."

Former Jordan, Midland, Spyker and Force India boss Kolles revealed that further investment was still needed in Campos, which has so far named only one driver – Bruno Senna – for the new season.

"I could not resist this tremendous challenge and am very excited to join forces in this new team," Kolles added.

"Over the next 10 days, we will review the entire operation, find the extra funding to ensure the team will make the first race in Bahrain, announce the line-up for 2010 in due time and make the operation viable under Jose Ramon Carabante's new ownership."
