Indonesia is not ready to host a Formula 1 grand prix, FIA president Jean Todt has said.
Rumours were circulating that the country was being lined up to stage a race as a result of Todt’s recent visit, but he has ruled out that possibility for now, saying Indonesia should instead target the World Touring Car Championship.
" F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport and I must say it's encouraging to see the evolution of the sport in the region of Asia," Todt told the Jakarta Post.
"I myself went to the Sentul Circuit, and it was definitely not the standard Formula 1 circuit, but I'm sure with some renovation, this circuit could be and could host the touring car championship.
"It depends from where you start, it's a step-by-step progress. If you want to make the F1 race, you need a standard circuit. At the moment, you do not have one of that standard."
