The All England Club, home of the Wimbledon tennis championships, has appointed Mick Desmond as commercial director.
The new role, which reports to chief executive Ian Ritchie, will combine the positions of director of television and director of marketing.
Desmond, who starts on April 6, will be responsible for all commercial activities relating to the championships and the club, including television and broadcasting, official supplier and sponsorship income, merchandising and licensing, digital strategy and corporate hospitality arrangements.
Desmond is a former chief executive of ITV Broadcasting and was also joint managing director of the ITV Network Centre.
Since leaving ITV in 2005, he has held a number of board and consultancy roles, including executive chair of Channel TV and chairman and co-founder of Digital Planet and IPCN (International Programme Content Network).
Ritchie said: “We are delighted to have attracted someone of the calibre of Mick, with his wealth of background and experience, to this role.
“The commercial world of sport is vibrant and increasingly competitive and the championships intends to keep its place at the very top of global sporting events in every way, including our commercial activities.”
