Spain's tennis federation will invest $271,000 to try to boost the fortunes of the women’s game in the country.
While Spain’s men won a second straight Davis Cup last year, its women’s team face dropping out of the World Group zone for the first time in Fed Cup history.
President Jose Luis Escanuela said that the federation will look to hold more top-level tournaments and create a national centre to help nurture talent.
Spain won five Fed Cups during the 1990s but has lost all three final appearances since its last victory in 1998.
