South Africa 2010 chief executive Danny Jordaan has insisted that Soccer City stadium is now complete despite building work still taking place outside its perimeter.
Fifa general-secretary Jerome Valcke admitted just last week that Soccer City, which is scheduled to host the first game of the tournament and the final, was “not ready”.
But with 100 days to go until the World Cup kicks off on June 11, Jordaan has moved to allay fears that organisers are cutting it too fine.
"We must agree to reflect the reality of a complete stadium,” he said. “The outer perimeter, the beautification of the environment, is not complete but we musn’t conclude that it's incomplete.
"Soccer matches don't take place outside the perimeter but inside the stadium.”
