Great Britain's table tennis performance director Steen Hansen has resigned after “losing faith” in UK Sport over funding cuts.
Table tennis funding was slashed by more than 50 per cent for London 2012 and the highly rated Dane told The Daily Telegraph: "I just can't understand why, after the results we achieved as a development programme and with the youth, we are then suddenly punished for good results. I just lost faith in the system."
Hansen, who also blamed internal problems within the English Table Tennis Association (ETTA) for his decision to leave, has now taken up a similar position with the Spanish national team.
He added: "I am sad not to have been given the opportunity to finish what I started, especially as 2012 is around the corner.
“We took ETTA from a laughing stock to being a major force within the international game. I just couldn't understand the UK Sport funding policy."
