Soccer City, the stadium that will host this year’s World Cup Final, has gone 1bn rand ($133m) over budget, it has emerged.
Johannesburg city councilman Parks Tau admitted that Soccer City ended up costing 3.2bn rand ($424m) because of the rising price of building materials.
The stadium, which will also stage the opening match of the tournament this summer, has been handed over to the city, although work is still to be completed on the transport infrastructure around the venue.
