Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid will be among the speakers at the 2010 SportAccord Convention in Dubai, it has been announced.
Dravid, the former captain of India’s national team and a star of the Indian Premier League, will take part in a conference session on the changing geography of international sport.
Mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes will introduce the session dedicated to countries and regions that have become major players in sport, reflecting the emergence of their increasingly powerful economies.
The Rio 2016 Olympics will be the first Games to take place in South America and Carlos Nuzman, president of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, will also participate in the panel session.
Dravid and Nuzman will be joined by Dmitry Chernyshenko, chief executive of Sochi 2014, the first Russian host of the Olympic Winter Games, and Sam Ramsamy, an IOC member from South Africa, whose country will be the first African nation to host the World Cup.
“We are proud to have assembled such a fantastic list of participants in this session to address the big picture issues in some of the newest and largest markets for sport,” said Anna Hellman, executive director of SportAccord Convention.
“They are uniquely qualified to provide insights into the expansion of sport into new regions and what the changing international demographics for hosting events and sport consumption will mean for all of world sport.”
The eighth annual SportAccord Convention will take place in Dubai from April 25-30 at the Atlantis Palm Resort. It is the first edition of the SportAccord Convention to be held in the Middle East.
