The Co-operative Group will sponsor a new political rugby league team called the Political Animals.
The team, which will carry the Co-op’s logo on its shirt, is made up of politicians from all parties and regions of the UK, including Lords, MPs, councillors and parliamentary candidates. It will play representative sides to raise the profile of the sport among a wider political audience and help raise money for charity.
The Co-op is already and official partner of the Rugby Football League. Liz Matkin, the company’s head of sponsorship, said: “We are proud to be supporting this new political rugby league team.
“It is a natural expansion of our rugby league sponsorships and will enable us to be part of the team’s success on the pitch. We wish the team well in 2010.”
