South Africa 2010 chief executive Danny Jordaan has vowed that this year’s competition will generate the most revenue of any World Cup in history.
Jordaan promised that organisers would stay within their $423m and predicted that Fifa would generate $3.5bn in revenue from the first World Cup to be held in Africa.
"In Germany [at the 2006 World Cup], it was only $2.6bn,” he said. “This will be the highest revenue ever for a World Cup."
Jordaan also dismissed reports that Fifa was sending in 40 advisers to help bolster his team in the run-up to the tournament.
He added: "There are not 40 advisers at Fifa with more experience than me. This is my fifth World Cup.
"Forty advisers is too many. Jesus Christ only had 12 disciples. I don't have a single foreign adviser working for me.”
