The Canadian Government will increase funding for elite athletes after the host country’s record 14 golds at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
The Government will contribute C$44m ($42.6m) over two years, according to budget documents released in Ottawa.
Canada won 14 gold medals at the Vancouver Games, the most for any nation in the 86-year history of the Winter Games.
The Canadian Olympic Committee requested additional funding to make up for declining corporate sponsorship for future Games not held on Canadian soil.
