The International Rugby Board (IRB) could offer financial support to help Argentina enter the Tri-Nations, it has been claimed.
Reports in New Zealand suggest Argentina’s inclusion in the competition from 2012 onwards has been agreed in principle, but that doubts remain over funding for both the national team and the creation of a strong domestic professional league to tempt the country’s best players back from Europe.
It is thought that the IRB could pledge up to $2m to help Argentina create a viable club competition as part of a long-term strategic plan.
IRB chief executive Mike Miller told the AllBlacks website: "Expect to hear something about that later in March.”
