The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has said that its new partnership with IEC in Sports has already produced “very satisfying media sales”.
The IAAF appointed IEC to handle the European and African media rights for the 2010-13 World Athletic Series in October, and the World Indoor Championships – which begins in Doha on Friday (March 12) – is the first event covered by the deal.
IEC recently announced individual agreements in many European territories as well as with Supersport across territories in Sub-Saharan Africa for the Doha event. In total, 21 media contracts have been signed in the first five months of the partnership.
IAAF president Lamine Diack said: “As the agreement with IEC was only made in October, the sales window has been short and we have been impressed by the serious and diligent work done by our new partner.
“Along with the TV sales secured outside Europe and Africa by our worldwide marketing partner Dentsu, I am very satisfied with the level of coverage that has been secured for the Doha World Indoor Championships.”
